Joint Opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has made some huge pledges to GDh. Thinadhoo after arrived at a large campaign event in the island on Friday night.

At the event, Solih pledged to develop the Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital as a tertiary hospital, and establish a rehabilitation clinic, saying that Thinadhoo already has 400 people in need of rehabilitation.

“Unable to get treatment, they have no choice but to go out to the streets. We found that politicians use them for political purposes. Businessmen use them as well. We have to show them the right path.”

Solih also pledged to reverse the legal obstructions placed for transporting goods after travelling out of the country from Thinadhoo and to give fair wages for fishermen’s catch as well as allowing them to sell their catch abroad. Noting that there are around 100 unlicensed foreign fishing vessels active in Maldives, he vowed to allow Maldivian fishermen access to the whole Maldivian region.

Solih said his administration will provide loans to build fishing vessels with freezers and also cut the import tax from diesel and cheapen diesel rates.
