The opposition coalition parties have congratulated a traffic police officer for stopping an armed assailant on Tuesday night in Male’.
The officer has been receiving public praise for stopping the assailant as he fled after stabbing a civilian with a knife in Maafannu ward.

At a press conference on Wednesday, MP Mariya Ahmed Didi, spokesperson of the Joint Opposition presidential candidate, said he is an excellent example for what other officers should aspire too.
She said that all officers should stop any assailant in their vicinity as part of their ‘protect and serve’ pledge and that the opposition hopes to pave the way for the police service to focus on their true purpose in their administration.
