Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) members will continue to protest even in the grave, says President Abdulla Yameen.

Speaking at a campaign event in Th. Guraidhoo on Sunday, President Yameen said that the only thing members of the main opposition party know is to protest and that they will continue to protest before and after being elected and even in the grave.

“They protested back then. They protested after coming to power. Even now they protest. They will continue to protest in the grave. They know nothing else.”

While President Yameen in his speech claimed that fewer people protest now, the government has severely narrowed the right to assembly and have arrested and convicted numerous protesters.

President Yameen condemned MDP and said that the country is not just for oppressors.

He ended his speech by asking the opposition to walk the ‘correct’ path to regain any lost rights.
