The hearing was scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Sunday
The appeal case was filed on the 20th of March
Mahloof was arrested at an opposition protest held on the 22nd of February

High Court has on Sunday cancelled the hearing scheduled in Member of Parliament for South-Galolhu constituency Ahmed Mahloof’s appeal case regarding his arrest on the 22nd of February, under the nation-wide State of Emergency declared across Maldives.

The hearing was initially scheduled for 10am on Sunday.

The lawmaker was arrested at an opposition protest held on the 22nd of February, where opposition aligned members and anti-government activits poured onto the streets to call for incumbent President Abdulla Yameen's resignation and for the implementation of the initial February 01st Supreme Court ruling that issued the release of high-profile political prisoners.

According to the appeal submitted to court by the lawmaker on the 20th of March, he was arrested against the regulations and laws of the Parliament.

Parliamentarian Mahloof had previously served a sentence of 10 months and 24 days in prison after having been found guilty for obstructing law enforcement officers on two separate occasions.
