A Maldivian family has been left stranded in Kochi city of flood-hit Kerala state and is soon running out of supplies, relatives have informed.

A member of the family living in capital city Malé told RaajjeMV that the family was in Kochi for medical purposes, with one being treated at the Amrita hospital.

The family in Kochi – them being the patient, her husband, and their progeny – are now struggling to attain access to food supplies and drinking water.

“Their food stock has now totally run out, and the four cases of drinking water they bought as the flooding worsened is also running out”, the relative said.

The Kerala flooding has caused shops to close and sent prices of food and utilities zooming. Relief camps have been providing basic supply to those displaced by the flooding.

The Maldivian government this week aided a number of local families stranded by the floods. A total of 52 individuals were moved to safety by the Maldives Consulate in Trivandrum.

However, the relative told RaajjeMV that the family now stranded in Kochi was unable to be transferred because the patient was unfit for travel.
