President Abdulla Yameen has accepted Maldives National Univesity (MNU)'s presidential debate invitation.

Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s deputy leader made the announcement via twitter on Saturday.

Back in July, public broadcaster Public Service Media (PSM) signed an agreement with the university, to host the presidential debates ahead of September's polls.

While the president has accepted MNU's invitation, RaajjeTV had also sent him an invitation for the station's debate. However, he is yet to accept this invitation and a second invite was sent last Sunday.

His running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has not accepted RaajjeTV's invitation as well.

However, opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and running mate Faisal Naseem have accepted the invitation.

RaajjeTV says that they will set a date and venue for the debate after discussing with those participating.
