Government aligned parliamentarian Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has said that he remains dedicated to the ruling party’s campaign efforts and the ‘excitement’ surrounding it.

The lawmaker, who is also leader of the ruling party’s parliamentary group leader, said this while speaking at the ‘Rumaalu 2’ campaign site in capital city Malé.

In his speech, Nihan said that he is going to go to any length in order to support incumbent President Abdulla Yameen’s bid for presidency.

"Even if we have to stand on street corners in advocation, we will do so”

“Be steadfast, keep the excitement going. We have the support of this country’s capable youth and women. Even if we have to stand on street corners in advocation, we will do so”, Nihan told his audience.

Further, Nihan described the policies of President Yameen’s opponents and rivals in the upcoming ballots as inadequate.

In this regard, the lawmaker said that the Joint Opposition appointed MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as presidential candidate as a means to damage his political capital – claiming that opposition leader Mohamed Nasheed is behind this alleged ploy.

“Mohamed Nasheed and the rest of associates are attempting to damage Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s career. He is a mannered and soft-spoken individual from Hinnavaru island, and is unable to say no to them”, Nihan claimed.

Nihan, who has faced public scrutiny and accusations of graft over lavish spending, said that the party will continue to hold serial campaign events in capital city Malé.
