It has been two weeks since authorities have been refusing to allow a meeting between jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb and his attorneys.
In a tweet on Thursday, Adeeb’s wife Mariyam Nashwa said the Maldives Correctional Service has banned the meetings.
She said that Corrections does not allow Adeeb to talk with or see anyone except for the guards who bring him food.
She also tagged the police service and inquired them on his medical condition.
It’s been more than 2 weeks @Corrections_Mv has banned Adeebs lawyer meeting. Rule made 4 Adeeb by MCS doesn’t allow Adeeb to talk or see any other human except the guards who attend his cell to give food. @policemv how is he? Is he ok? What’s his medical condition?

Adeeb is serving prison sentences totaling 33 years over several convictions.
His family and legal team have expressed concern over his deteriorating medical condition after being stricken with glaucoma, internal cysts, and kidney stones. Despite repeated requests, the government has refused to allow him to go abroad for treatment.
Civil Court has thrown out a case regarding Adeeb’s medical negligence and requesting that he be allowed to seek treatment abroad.
