Opposition coalition’s Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that a unity government run by the opposition coalition will conduct numerous development projects in Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaram.
While addressing residents of the island in his ongoing tour of Haa Dhaal atoll, Solih said that although President Abdulla Yameen has inaugurated the island's sewerage system, its services have yet to begin.
Noting that the sewerage pipes are yet to be installed in residences, Solih said that a unity government run by the opposition will provide these services.
Solih highlighted that the opposition’s manifesto includes pledges to provide clean drinking water and the installation of sewer systems in all inhabited islands of the country.
Stressing that residents of the islands are still unable to use the incomplete harbor, Solih pledged to bring a solution to this matter as well.
“Upon docking at the island harbor, we immediately noticed that it is still under construction. However, the island’s council members as well as residents of the island told us that this was not being done effectively. Hopefully we will bring a solution to this matter in a unity government after holding discussions with the island council” said Solih.
Moreover, Solih said that while houses in some of the 170 plots of land issued to residents of the island in the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed have been built, electricity is yet to be provided to the region. He assured the residents that his administration will solve this issue.
The opposition candidate further revealed his plan to begin housing projects in the islands after consulting with residents, inquiring them on whether they require plots of land or flats.
He said that a unity government will bring revolutionary changes to the island’s education system, Solih pledged to bring into effect, a single-session school policy in the island as well.
Pledging to conduct development schemes especially for the youth, Solih said that his administration will also focus on recreational activities and pledged to build sports grounds.
Solih also said that a unity government will promote the tourism industry and that Guest House businesses will be introduced to the island.
Solih also pledged to develop the island's road and assured that all the projects will be carried out after discussions with atoll councils and in a way that pleases the residents of the islands.
