Maldives Police Service (MPS) has seized narcotics in a search operation in Maduvvari island of Raa atoll.

RaajjeMV understands that arrested in the drug bust was a 25-year-old man.

He was arrested from inside a boat travelling from capital city Male’ to Maduvvari after it had docked at the island. His arrest comes following an intelligence report received by the police that the man was attempting to smuggle drugs into the island via sea route.

According to the MPS, they had found two rubber packets suspected to contain narcotic substances upon searching the individual who had travelled from the capital city.

The court has since remanded the 25-year old for seven days under police custody.
