Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA)’s commemorative coin for the 50th Republic Day is now on sale for MVR 1,500.
The commemorative coin was introduced on the 53rd Independence Day ceremony last Thursday night by President Abdulla Yameen.
While the coin was issued on Independence Day, which celebrates Maldives independence from the British on 26 July 1965, MMA stated that the coin was to mark the 50th Republic Anniversary, which celebrates the country becoming a republic on 11 November 1965.

The silver coin has a face value of MVR 150, weighs 28.28 grams, is 38.61 millimeters in diameter and contains 950 ounces of gold on the gold plate.
The 50th Republic Day will be celebrated on November 11.
