Will not allow anyone to meddle in elections, says opposition presidential candidate
Solih said this at his first opposition rally since his candidacy was accepted by the Elections Commission
He called on all to cast their votes and assured that opposition monitors will remain at polling stations until all votes are counted
He said that the reason he accepted opposition's candidacy was because he 'is certain that [he] can take on the responsibility'

Opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he will not let anyone 'meddle' in the 2018 presidential elections, adding that they 'will remain in the streets' until incumbent President Abdulla Yameen accepts defeat.

Solih said this while speaking to the residents of Hithaadhoo island of Baa atoll on Sunday. He is there as part of his tour of Baa atoll, his first trip since his candidacy was accepted by the Elections Commission.

Noting that President Yameen maintains that he will be coming back for a second term, Solih said that 'there is no way [they] can meddle with the votes'.

Calling on all to cast their votes, he assured that monitors from the opposition will remain at the polling stations until all results are counted.

Solih said that 'knowing the current government's tyranny, we will have to remain on the streets until President Yameen accepts defeat' in the election.

"We will not take even a single step back", he added.

Furthermore, Solih said that 'within 18 to 20 months after the opposition emerges victorious we will investigate all the unlawful activities by the current administration and take the necessary measures'.

However, he highlighted that an opposition government 'will not seek revenge' but rather will work to help the people.

The opposition also held a special rally in Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo on Saturday night, where a number of senior opposition officials spoke.

Speaking there, Solih- who is also the parliamentary group leader of main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)- noted two things he will never let go of; his integrity and faithfulness.

He said that the reason he accepted the opposition's candidacy was because he 'is certain that [he] can take on the responsibility'.
