President Abdulla Yameen has made next Sunday (tomorrow) a public holiday.

President’s Office confirmed this on Twitter.

President’s Office stated that President Yameen made the decision due to the Independence Day activities being postponed to Saturday evening, adding that a high number of school students and civil servants are involved in the activities.

Government offices are to be reopened on Monday.

Festivities for the 53^rd Independence Day was initially scheduled for Friday night before postponing them to Saturday night.

Last Thursday was also made a public holiday for the occasion.
