The Saudi government often gifts date palms to Maldives ahead of Ramadan

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has finished distributing a total of 50 tons of dates gifted by the Saudi Arabian government.

Dates were reportedly distributed to a total of 24,345 households, with 13,052 of these households being in the outlying atolls.

The government gave away exactly one packet of dates to each household. To receive this, the household must have had verify themselves with a copy of their home registration, national registration, and rent agreements as applicable.

While it is an annual traditions for the Saudi government to gift dates to Maldives ahead of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting, this year's donation comes well after Ramadan ended. These are distributed until depletion.
