The Elections Commission has brought a change to its regulation, hours after publicizing one that states that voters list at poll stations 'must have photos IDs'.
The Commission- who had previously said that the voters list will not include photo IDs- only realized their 'mistake', as they called it, after the regulation was published and the following media reports.
The change was brought to clause 30 (b) of the Presidential Elections Act, which now states that the voters list will not include photos. It previously stated that the list of eligible voters must include 'full name, sex, address, birth date, island, atoll and the national identity card number, as well as photo ID'.
The regulation was re-published with the change on Monday itself.
While the Elections Commission remains adamant to not include photo IDs in the voters list, the opposition called it an attempt to 'manipulate' the election results.
