A five-minute re-registration method and more mobile stations will be established soon, says the Elections Commission (EC).
The Commission also said that 14 counters have been set up to provide re-registration services.
“The problem of large queues like in previous years will not occur. This time re-registration will be very easy, we guarantee that people will not have to wait in long queues at the [election center in] old Jamaluddin School building. Whatever services in Male’ will be provided at the community center in Hulhumale’,” said EC member Akram.
Akram said that re-registration forms are available for download and that it will take five minutes to submit the form.
He also said that people should confirm where their location would be on election day before registering or else there would be issues during the voting process.
“After the re-registration, we will announce the opportunity to submit complaints. After the list is finalized it cannot be changed. People should confirm where they are registered. They can receive information of their registered location through MMS. They will also receive a slip, which should be kept with them.”
Akram also said that mobile stations will be established in areas with large populations including in Male’ parks and large government buildings such as Velaanaage. Mobile stations will also be set up at ferry terminals, he added.
The deadline to re-register is August 11.
The re-registration form should be submitted to the election centre at the old Jamaluddin School building if in Male’ City, the island and city councils, the first floor of the Hulhumale’ youth center, and the mobile station at the Villimale’ ferry terminal.
A copy of the ID card or a statement confirming identity should also be submitted with the form, which will be accepted from 8:30am to 3:00pm on working days, from 9:30am to 3:00pm on non-working days and from 3:00pm to 5:00pm on Friday.
