OPEC Fund to loan USD 40m for Maldives development
The concessional loan will be used for development of sewerage systems, harbors, and airports in the islands
The loans will be distributed into four packages according to atolls
Package 4 includes the development of an airport in faafu Nilandhoo

OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) has loan USD 40 million (MVR 616 million) for Maldives development projects.

The environment ministry stated that the concessional loan will be used for development of sewerage systems, harbors, and airports in the islands, which will be distributed into four packages.

The environment ministry stated that Package 1 will include the islands of Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani atolls, specifically the development of sewerage systems in Nellaidhoo, Neykurendhoo, Makunudhoo, and Feydhoo, and the development of coastal protection in Maroshi.

Package 2 includes islands of Gaafu Alifu, Gaafu Dhaalu, and Shaviyani atolls, specifically the development of sewerage systems in Vaadhoo, and Fiyoari, and development of harbors in Kolamaafushi, Hoadedhdhoo, and Maradhoo-Feydhoo, as well as the development of coastal protection in Meedhoo.

Package 3 includes islands of Baa atoll, specifically development of harbors in Kudarikilu, Dhonfanu, and Kihaadhoo, and development of sewerage systems in Dharavandhoo, and Kendhoo.

Package 4 includes the development of an airport in faafu Nilandhoo.
