The Maldives Police Service have arrested a woman accused of smuggling drugs into the state-run detention facility in Maafushi island.

Officers apprehended the 31-year-old from outside the prison premises and upon searching her person, found three ‘bullet-sized’ rubber packets they believe held narcotic substances.

The arrest was made in a ‘special’ operation conducted by the Maldives Police Service’s intelligence department and officers of the police station in Maafushi.

The woman has been remanded for a period of 13 days by the regional magistrate court in Maafushi.
