Opposition presidential candidate, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was the target of an attack while in Hulhumalé on Tuesday, as part of his door-to-door campaign.

His attackers had failed in their attempt, as Solih was able to find protection behind a vehicle. While he is yet to be provided security officially, he is currently being guarded by two former military officers of the police's Special Protection Group; they were dismissed following the turmoil that erupted after the controversial Supreme Court ruling on February 1.

The campaign was obstructed, again, minutes later. However, Solih's campaign team assured that they will be moving forward with the campaign activities.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s vice president, Mohamed Shifaz said that Tuesday's incident shows that President Yameen has lost "big" in the upcoming election while deputy chair Ali Niyaz emphasized that the Elections Commission "must take responsibility for this".

The party's chair Hassan Latheef also assured that they will be moving forward with the campaign activities.

Before recommencing the door-to door activities, Solih said that despite such attacks they will not stop their campaign activities for the elections, adding that "President Yameen has lost the election, we will only stop our work after ending this tyranny".
