Indian news outlets have reported that another Maldivian has been arrested in connection to the drug bust of 17 kilograms of Hashish oil found in possession of three Maldivians in early June.
The New Indian Express reported that 22-year-old Amhar Rasheed, who is studying for a degree course in India, was taken into police cusoty following the arrest of Aiman Ahmed (24) Ibrahim Fauzan Solih (29) and Shanees Maheer (27).
The Indian newspaper reported that, according to Narcotics Cell Assistant Commissioner Sheen Tharayil, Amhar was preparing to leave to Maldives from Kerala, at the time of his arrest.
RaajjeMV understands that the accused had been residing in Palkulangara where he had stored narcotics before handing them over to the previously arrested trio who had been on the run when the Kerala Anti Narcotic Special Action Force had been tipped off about their scheme to smuggle narcotics into Maldives in cans of vegetable oil.
Amhar is evidently a close associate of the first suspects in the case, Aiman Ahmed and are both native to Gaaf Dhaal atoll Thinadhoo island.
The previously arrested trio had been shifting from one hotel to the other within India when they eventually found that the trio brought around 32 kilograms of dalda sachets.
The Times of India previously reported that one of the arrested, Shanees, was allegedly engaged in “trans-shipment and mid-sea transactions across the international market.”
Maldives Embassy in Delhi had revealed that they have not yet received additional information regarding the four arrested under the drug bust.
