Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has discussed campaign strategies with his atoll teams.
The Hinnavaru MP met with the teams from GDh. Thinadhoo, Ihavadhoo, GA. Villingili, and F. Magoodhoo at MDP’s office on Monday.
Solih was elected as MDP’s candidate at the party congress on Saturday, after former President Mohamed Nasheed relinquished MDP’s party ticket despite winning the primaries with over 40,000 votes. Nasheed withdrew after the Elections Commission (EC) maintained that he would not be allowed to run in the presidential elections, citing his prison conviction.
Solih met with MDP’s campaign team after winning the candidacy in order to further strengthen their work.
The opposition coalition has agreed to back a member of MDP as their common presidential candidate and a member of Jumhooree Party (JP) as the running mate. The opposition has said that they will begin campaigning in earnest after JP chooses the running mate.
