The manner in which voters’ lists for the upcoming presidential ballots were compiled by the Elections Commission is conducive to electoral fraud, the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party has said.
MP Mohamed Aslam said at a press conference on Thursday that the there are numerous obstacles to presenting concerns about said voters’ lists.
Aslam, who is also manager of the party’s presidential campaign, said that the commission has not provided adequate opportunity for the party to campaign.
Further, he had also said that the voters list not having the national identity card numbers of citizens on it. Panelists at the conference described this to be as biggest point of concern.
Ali Niyaz, chair of the party’s advisory committee and administrate deputy of the chairperson, said that the commission has been welting the party and that none of their requests in regard to the voter’s lists have been met.
