Supreme Court of the Maldives has upheld Civil Court's ruling issued on Inidian-based bank in Maldives, State Bank of India (SBI) to pay up motorcycle retailer Sheesha Private Limited.
Sheesha run by three brothers who are authorized distributors of Honda in the Maldives, had lost MVR 18 million through a robbery from their account in SBI, which the Civil Court had deemed to have occurred due to negligence on the bank's part.
Supreme Court had upheld Civil Court's ruling issued on the bank to pay up the motocycle retailer with MVR 13.5 million out of the stolen 18 million on Tuesday.
While the Supreme Court has upheld the Civil Court ruling, High Court of the Maldives had upheld the ruling issued on the bank back in 2015.
According to the Civil Court ruling, the bank was to be held responsible for the loss due to negligence on their part and is to pay up MVR 13.5 million, as the rest has already been reimbursed.
The issue was filed at court by three shareholders of Sheesha, Ahmed Hassan Manik, Ibrahim Husham and Hassan Husham.
