Five arrests have been made from five different islands in narcotic related cases.
According to the Maldives Police Service (MPS), arrests were made under operations conducted in Lhaviyani Hinnavaru, Raa Maduvvari, Meemu Muli, Laamu Isdhoo and Seenu Gan.
A 34 year-old was arrested following an intelligence report to the MPS intelligence department that the man had been by the seacoast of Hinnavaru with narcotic substances.
Police report that substances suspected to be narcotics wrapped in seven sheets of cellophane and packed in 10 rubber packets were confiscated from the 34 year-old following inspection.
While a 26 year-old was arrested with a rubber packet containing substances suspected to be narcotics, in the operation conducted in Maduvvari, a 22 year-old was arrested from Muli with a large cellophane bag and two small packs containing such substances.
A 33 year-old was arrested from Isdhoo under the same operation and police had found seven rubber packets containing substances suspected to be narcotics, on him.
Furthermore, a 35 year-old had also been arrested under an operation conducted in Addu city Maradhoo. The man was arrested with 11 rubber packets and four cellophane pieces containing substances suspected to be narcotics.
The police report that investigations in all of the drug related cases are currently underway.
