Maldivian blogger Yameen Rasheed, who was murdered in his home last year, has been honoured at the annual Journalists Memorial in Washington, D.C., United States.
The memorial was held at the Newseum, a museum dedicated to journalism and press freedom, along with 17 other people.
Yameen’s body was found in the stairwell of his home in the capital on 23rd April 2017, stabbed over 30 times.
While six suspects have been arrested over the murder, authorities have chosen to hold the trial behind closed doors, a decision criticized by his family, the local public and the international community.
Yameen’s family says that the public must be given access to the trial ‘so as to ensure justice’ and that there are no doubts over the verdict.
