Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) is investigating RaajjeTV over its coverage of a Joint Opposition protest on March 16.
In a letter sent to the station, Broadcom said that its live coverage of the event had 'threatened public peace and defamed President Abdulla Yameen'.
In the letter, Broadcom noted some interviews of senior opposition members during the coverage and said that their statements were in violation of the anti-defamation laws.
In the letter, Broadcom had written down the script of the interviews but did not disclose how it had violated anti-defamation laws. Therefore, RaajjeTV has requested that Broadcom clarify the matter while noting that it was investigating a case with no basis.
In order to calrify the matter, RaajjeTV's Chief Operating Officer Hussain Fiyaz Moosa and members of its legal team, Ali Hussain and Nishan Ibrahim met with members of the Commission on Wednesday. However, Broadcom failed to clarify the matter and RaajjeTV has requested that Broadcom send them the details of the case in written form.
