Somalian vessels captured in Maldivian waters, brought to Malé

Two Somalian fishing vessels that were captured in Maldivian waters have been brought to capital city Malé.

Captain Ibrahim Azim, the military’s information officer, confirmed this and said that the vessels are docked in the outer waters of the atoll.

One of the vessels was discovered 76.5 nautical miles off Hirilandhoo island in Thaa Atoll, with 10 crew members in total.

The other was found in the waters off of Maamigilli island of Alif Dhaal Atoll, with 12 crew members.

While they are all reported to be native to Thailand, the vessels also had over 400 tonnes of fish onboard.

The Maldives National Defence Force previously said that the vessels will brought to the capital city for investigation as to where they had trespassed on Maldives’ maritime border.
