The tourism ministry has announced that 23 tourist resorts will be built in the next two years.
A news statement by the ministry and MMPRC stated that President Abdulla Yameen’s administration in 2013 planned to build a total of 50 resorts in the next five years.
It stated that 27 resorts have been built so far, and predicted that the soon-to-be built ones will create around 18,000 new jobs in the coming years.
2017 saw a significant gain for Maldives tourism, and the last five years has seen a 7.7 percent growth in the tourism industry.
Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer has said that MVR 100m will be spent to promote Maldives tourism.
