NIC President fired after obstruction allegations against senior police officials

President Abdulla Yameen has removed Yoosuf Maaniu, President of the National Integrity Commission (NIC), from the post.
According to a tweet posted by the spokesperson at the President's Office, Maaniu was dismissed from the post on Thursday. He has been removed from the Commission as well.
The dismissal comes less than a week after Maaniu accused senior officials of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) of obstructing an on ongoing investigation into the conduct of law enforcement officers.
In a tweet sent out on November 17, NIC's now former chief said that those who obstruct investigations, 'those even in police leadership', will face the 'full legal power' of the National Integrity Commission.
A source from the Commission had informed RaajjeMV that police officers had made its staff delete photographs of prisoner holding cells operated in Villingilli of Gaafu Alifu atoll.
The ‘National Integrity Commission’ bill was ratified in 2015, and gives the commission authority to penalize those that obstruct their investigation.
Maaniu had told RaajjeMV that they are in talks with the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority to set a fine – which ranges from MVR 500 to 500,000 – against those that are found to have done
