New Radiant moves up on league table after phenomenal win against Milandhoo

New Radiant gained enough points for their win in Sunday’s match to place them at the top of the table with 21 points

New Radiant Sports Club has moved up on the Dhivehi Premier League table, following their phenomenal performance in Sunday’s match.

New Radiant defeated Milandhoo with a score of 7 – 1 in the Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League match played at the national stadium in capital city Malé.

The 2015 league champion shifted the game in their favour in the first half-hour of the match after New Radiant’s captain Ali ‘Sentey’ Fasir scored his team’s first goal on the 27th minute of the match.

Milandhoo’s team utilized an opening to New Radiant’s goal, through a fault of the team’s defence, to even-out the score. Milandhoo scored their first and only goal on the 37th minute of the match.

However, Sentey managed to gain a lead for his team narrowly before the first half of the match ended, on the 42nd minute.

New Radiant kept scoring early on in the second half as well. On the 58th minute of the match, the team’s Spanish forward Adrián Gallardo Valdés.

The 29-year-old received the ball from Maldives’ celebrated national team captain, Ali Ashfaq, who had been on the bench prior to the game for medical reasons. Ashfaq scored New Radiant’s fourth goal on the 61st minute of the match.

The second half further saw in an improvement in Milandhoo’s defence. However, Gallardo managed to move beyond the team’s defensive players and score his team’s fifth goal on the 73rd minute of the match.

Ashfaq followed up with the sixth minutes later on the 77th minute, while Sentey scored the last goal for his team in the match just five minutes before the referee’s whistle.

New Radiant gained enough points for their win in Sunday’s match to place them at the top of the table with 21 points. Maziya Sports and Recreation is second while TC Sports Club is third, both with 19 points. Club Green Street is fourth with 12 points.

All teams have played eight matches in the league thus far, which follows a round-robin system of play. Last year’s champion was Maziya Sports and Recreation.
