Police silent on fires in Parliament

No reason given for lack of disclosure

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated that the agency cannot disclose any information on the spontaneous fires in Parliament premises.

Police media official said they cannot disclose any information on the investigation or any related information on the case. He also did not disclose whether the case was under investigation or concluded. The official refused to divulge a reason for lack of disclosure.

Fires occurred in the Parliament premises in July and September.

The security of the Parliament is administered by Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF).

Opposition MPs allege that these fires were deliberate distractions to prevent sessions of Parliament from being held.
