The Maldives National Anti-Corruption Academy (MNACA) has announced plans to officially launch a "Diploma in Corruption Investigation" course in 2027. Accredited by the Maldives Qualifications Authority (MQA), the program aims to address and resolve existing challenges in investigating corruption.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has stated that one of the most significant obstacles to combating corruption in the Maldives is the scarcity of investigators specifically trained in corruption investigation. The ACC emphasized that addressing this gap is essential to maintaining public trust in the state's justice system and its institutions.
Ibrahim Thayyib, Director General of AMNAKA, stated that the upcoming MQA-accredited diploma course is a vital foundation for addressing the current national void and cultivating a new generation of investigators equipped with modern, international-standard skills.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) stated that this course was launched to address the shortage of skilled human resources in investigating corruption cases within the Maldives. Designed to meet international investigative standards, the program will provide training on maintaining professional ethics and integrity, as well as developing effective case management skills.
Furthermore, the ACC stated that the initiative will build capacity in obtaining and securing evidence within legal frameworks, ensuring the chain of custody, and conducting digital forensics as well as forensic analysis of financial transactions and documentation.
The ACC further stated that the course will cover state financial systems and procurement regulations. It will also provide training in modern technical skills, including identifying embezzlement and illicit enrichment, conducting interviews and taking statements, as well as the collection and analysis of intelligence information.
