ACC betrayed the public; best way to cut costs is to dissolve the institution and send its members home: Aik
14 އޮކްޓޯބަރު 2026 | ބުދަ 08:12Aik Ahmed Easa, a member of the MDP Lawyers' Committee, has leveled sharp criticism against the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), accusing its members of neglecting their legal mandates to serve the government's political interests. He asserted that instead of investigating national corruption, members are focused solely on securing their positions, and argued that they should be removed from office to reduce state expenditure.

Aik Ahmed Easa, a member of the MDP Lawyers' Committee, has characterized the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) as an institution that has betrayed the Maldivian people, asserting that if the government is intent on cutting costs, the commission's members should be dismissed.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Aik stated that there is currently no sector in the country free from corruption. He noted that individuals are being forced to join the PNC to secure or maintain their employment, emphasizing that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) must investigate these matters.
Aik stated that the current Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has betrayed the Maldivian people, asserting that its members are failing to fulfill any of the constitutional responsibilities entrusted to them.
Aik stated that the commission’s sole activities involve praising the government to protect their own positions, issuing statements to serve the administration's political agendas, and investigating those who oppose the government. He asserted that the ACC is not performing any other functions.
In my view, if we truly wish to reduce the national budget and cut costs today, the current members of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) should be dismissed and replaced with a new team to carry out this work. Certainly, if these individuals possessed any integrity, they would not be making such excuses. An ethical body would investigate these matters thoroughly, uncover the truth, and take necessary action where warranted. Furthermore, in cases that are baseless—such as the allegations leveled against Dr. Azmiralda and Justice Mahaz—an honorable commission would have filed and closed those cases rather than leaving them in their current state of limbo without pursuing charges.Aik Ahmed Easa
Aik questioned why cases that do not warrant investigation cannot be filed as closed due to lack of evidence after an initial inquiry. He further alleged that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is making excuses to avoid investigating genuine cases of corruption where evidence is present. He characterized the institution as one that has betrayed the public in every possible way.
Consequently, Aik stated that these individuals are not among those who should be retained in their positions with high salaries today.
