Former Member of Parliament for the Dhaandhoo constituency, Yauqoob Abdulla, has characterized the Ras Male' project as an initiative being carried out in violation of the state budget approved by Parliament and in a manner that facilitates corruption.
Speaking during RaajjeTV’s "Dhivehinge Bin Dhivehinnah" coverage, Yauqoob raised serious questions regarding the transparency of the project.
Yauqoob stated that the Ras Male' project was initiated in direct violation of the law. He noted that in 2023, the People's Majlis passed the budget with a significant majority after determining that the project was not a priority at that time.
However, Yauqoob noted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has defied the Parliament's decision by designating the Ras Male' project as the administration's top priority.
Elaborating further on the project, Yaqoob referenced President Muizzu’s recent trip to Singapore. Yauqoob alleged that the President’s visit was intended to collect commissions or "kickbacks" from deals related to the Ras Male' project. He further claimed that the President traveled to the country personally to secure the commissions available from the project.
Furthermore, Yauqoob stated that President Muizzu himself acknowledges his lack of popularity among the general public. Yaqoob added that because the President is certain he will not be re-elected for a second term, his current objective is to become one of the wealthiest individuals in the Maldives before leaving office.
Yauqoob expressed significant concerns regarding the Ras Male' project, alleging that it is being carried out in violation of the budget approved by the People's Majlis and in a manner that facilitates corruption.
