Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has stated that while the government could arrest him if they so desired, there are no legal grounds or justifications for such an action.
During Wednesday's episode of the "Fashaairu" program, Sheikh Imran harshly criticized the government regarding allegations that a significant portion of Ras Male' has been permanently granted to Eagle Hills.
Sheikh Imran stated that state affairs must be conducted within the framework of laws and regulations, through thorough debate and rigorous financial analysis, ensuring that projects are long-term investments that benefit the public. He further noted that true national security is not maintained when projects allow certain individuals to profit and disappear within a couple of years, leaving future generations to bear the burden and leading to the eventual ruin of the state.
Regarding the press conference held on the 19th of this month concerning the Ras Male' project, Imran stated that an individual had advised him to flee the country, claiming that a court warrant had been issued for his arrest in connection with the matter. Sheikh Imran further noted that when he inquired about the grounds for the arrest, the individual cited allegations of significant embezzlement highlighted in a Home Ministry audit report.
Furthermore, Imran stated that if he were to be arrested based solely on an audit report without a formal investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) or the police, he would become the first person in the Maldives to be detained based on an audit report alone.
"I am ready. I returned here from Thailand fully prepared to be arrested. I have done nothing that warrants an arrest; however, if they wish to take me into custody, I am ready. I have no complaints. I maintain with full confidence that there are no legal grounds upon which I should be arrested under the law."Sheikh Imran Abdulla
Sheikh Imran has declared that the national movement titled "Dhivehinge Bin Dhivehinnah," launched to oppose the sale of Ras Male', will not be deterred despite threats led by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Sheikh Imran further noted that the movement comprises numerous individuals who are far more senior and seasoned in political affairs than President Muizzu.
