MDP Chairperson and former President Mohamed Nasheed has stated that the policies of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu are compromising the peace and security of the Maldives.
In a post on X on Friday, President Nasheed stated that the Maldives must avoid becoming entangled in the rivalries between competing global powers.
In this regard, former President Nasheed stated that the Maldives' decision to strengthen defense ties with Pakistan would heighten India's concerns. He further cautioned that such a move could pose significant risks to the Maldives.
During President Muizzu's state visit to Pakistan, the two nations reached an agreement to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across several key sectors, including trade, defense, maritime security, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Furthermore, it is noteworthy that during the joint official statement with President Muizzu, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif advocated for the establishment of an independent state in Kashmir and warned of the potential for war should "red lines" be crossed regarding the Indus River dispute.
