If Ras Male' agreement is not disclosed, it implies a hidden agenda behind the project: Shareef
14 އޮކްޓޯބަރު 2026 | ބުދަ 08:14Former Member of Parliament Ibrahim Shareef has expressed grave concern over the government's decision to lease 500 hectares of land in Rasmalé to Eagle Hills for a 99-year period. Alleging that a hidden agenda may underlie the administration's decision to keep the agreement confidential, Shareef called for full transparency and urged the government to disclose the specific details of the transaction.

Former Kelaa MP Ibrahim Shareef has stated that if the agreement granting a significant portion of Ras Male' to Eagle Hills for 99 years remains undisclosed, it could suggest a sinister underlying agenda.
Speaking during RaajjeTV’s "Dhivehinge Bin Dhivehinah" coverage, Shareef expressed significant concerns regarding the government’s proposed real estate development zone project in Ras Male'.
Shareef stated that the current administration came to power on the promise that not a single grain of sand from this nation would be surrendered. He noted that while the government pledged that Maldivian land belongs solely to its people and would not be leased or handed over to foreign entities under any circumstances, they have ultimately granted over 500 hectares of land to Eagle Hills for 99 years, free of charge.
An area of 500 hectares is larger than Laamu Gan, the largest natural island in the Maldives. This vast expanse is being granted to Eagle Hills free of charge. No project in the Maldives—whether it be a resort development or any other venture—is typically granted for free. Under standard regulations, such projects are only awarded after the payment of an acquisition fee. This is the established procedure for every development project carried out in the Maldives.Ibrahim Shareef
Shareef remarked that it is ironic how those currently in government, who once characterized the 25-year lease of Velana International Airport (VIA) to GMR as "selling off the nation," now find no issue with granting the country's largest landmass to a foreign entity for 99 years free of charge.
He stated that it would be far better to award the land to Maldivian entrepreneurs, noting that there are local businessmen capable of operating such ventures within the country.
Highlighting that the lack of transparency regarding the agreement is currently one of the greatest concerns for Maldivians, Shareef warned that if the deal is executed improperly, Zionists could potentially work towards the eradication of the Maldivian race. Shareef further stated that the refusal to disclose the details of the agreement suggests a sinister underlying agenda. He argued that if the agreement were truly beneficial, there should be no reason to keep its contents hidden from the public.
Consequently, Shareef called on the government to disclose the details of the Ras Male' agreement to the public.
