Aik Ahmed Easa, a member of the MDP Lawyers' Committee, stated that the government’s first move to recover from the economic abyss caused by its own incompetence was to target the nation's resorts and the pockets of thousands of employees working within the industry.
Speaking at a rally held at the MDP headquarters on Wednesday night, Aik stated that the government had single-handedly plunged the nation's economy into a crisis through its own incompetence. He further criticized the administration for attempting to escape a self-inflicted predicament by targeting the earnings of resorts and their employees. He described these measures as a move that would only exacerbate the existing hardships faced by the industry.
Furthermore, Aik stated that the entirety of the state budgets for 2024, 2025, and 2026 were expended to achieve two specific objectives.
He stated that the funds were being used for the Ras Male' land reclamation project and to pay the salaries of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s political appointees and their families. Aik further asserted that the government is not undertaking any initiatives that would generate revenue or provide any tangible benefits to the general public.
The decision to dissolve atoll councils was driven solely by a greed for the uninhabited islands currently under their jurisdiction. Similarly, the efforts to undermine the authority of city and island councils are aimed at seizing control of the five percent block grants they receive. The government believes it can escape its current predicament by employing such misguided policies. However, they will not succeed.Aik Ahmed Easa
Aik stated that to escape this economic pitfall, the government must take immediate action to reduce spending, dismiss redundant political appointees, and halt unprofitable and detrimental projects. He further called on the administration to resign immediately if they are unable to implement these measures, urging them to hand over governance to those capable of managing the situation.
