President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has once again called for the acceleration of development projects across the country.
President Muizzu made this request during a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.
The President's Office stated that during Tuesday's cabinet meeting, cabinet members and heads of state-owned enterprises engaged in extensive discussions regarding the progress of President Muizzu's presidential pledges and updates on ongoing projects across all islands of the Maldives.
President Muizzu has instructed the Cabinet to expedite numerous stalled projects, following the implementation of solutions to address supply chain disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Furthermore, President Muizzu emphasized the importance of working with renewed vigor and collective effort to ensure that individual projects are completed within their designated timelines.
Since President Muizzu assumed office, local councils have been expressing growing concern over the suspension of numerous development projects, including those initiated by the previous administration as well as new ventures started under the current government.
In October 2025, President Muizzu stated that all government projects would be initiated across 2025 and 2026, with the majority slated for completion within 2026. However, as the current year draws to a close, members of the public are expressing concern over the stagnation of development projects, including those launched to coincide with the council elections.
