MDP's fifth national congress commences

Scheduled to span three days, the gathering will include an investment forum and the finalization of strategic decisions aimed at shaping the party’s future direction.

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has commenced its fifth national congress.
The MDP Congress commenced on Thursday night and is scheduled to continue through Saturday. During the opening ceremony held on Thursday night, the MDP Chairperson and former President Mohamed Nasheed, along with former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, are set to deliver remarks.
The Investment Forum was held on Friday afternoon, marking the second day of the congress. Following a full day dedicated to investment-related proceedings, Saturday’s agenda included the presentation of the congress report and the official launch of the MDP mobile application.
Furthermore, the agenda for the day includes proposing amendments to the party's charter, as well as the submission and debate of a major reform resolution as a policy paper. A resolution on decentralization will also be presented during the congress. Following these discussions, a vote will be held on the proposed amendments to the party's charter.
The closing ceremony of the congress is scheduled for Saturday night, during which senior party leadership will deliver remarks.
Regarding the ongoing congress, the MDP stated that this session will be distinct in every aspect. The party further noted that several key decisions concerning its future direction will be finalized during the congress.
