Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced that starting this October, a monthly withdrawal limit of $3,500 will be imposed on cash withdrawals made through its ATMs. This marks the first time the national bank has introduced a monthly limit on US dollar withdrawals via its ATM network.
According to information shared with the media by Bank of Maldives, despite the adjustment to the monthly withdrawal limit, customers can still withdraw up to $1,600 per day using an ATM card, as was previously the case.
According to the bank, this change is part of its ongoing efforts to expand modern "digital-first" banking services across the Maldives. BML stated that this decision aligns with its long-term strategy to reduce reliance on cash and promote a fast, secure, and convenient digital financial ecosystem.
Furthermore, BML highlighted that it has made significant investments in establishing digital platforms to facilitate seamless daily banking services without the need for physical cash. These advancements include features within mobile and internet banking that allow customers to instantly transfer funds, pay bills from any location, and manage account transactions with ease.
BML stated that customers will continue to enjoy seamless access to card and contactless payment services for both local and international transactions, alongside the convenience of real-time fund transfers between accounts.
