MVR 5.17 million disbursed as Zakat assistance during August

The largest portion of these funds was allocated to medical assistance for the poor and needy, as well as educational and religious programs conducted in the cause of Allah (Fi-Sabilillah). The Maldives Zakat House has announced that 5.17 million MVR was disbursed as Zakat assistance during the month of August this year.
The Maldives Zakat House announced on Wednesday that a total of MVR 5,170,675.91 was disbursed as Zakat assistance during August this year. This represents a 12 percent increase compared to the MVR 4,615,944.84 distributed during the same period last year.
The Maldives Zakat House has noted that the largest portion of its expenditure in August was allocated to the poor and needy, totaling MVR 2,358,675.66. This includes MVR 2,316,175.66 disbursed for medical assistance and MVR 42,500 provided for essential needs.
The next largest expenditure was allocated to the "Fi-Sabilillah" (for the sake of Allah) category.
The Zakat House stated that the total expenditure amounted to MVR 2,544,823.64. This includes MVR 1,047,219.50 spent on conducting religious programs, MVR 797,604.14 provided as higher education assistance, and MVR 579,585.40 allocated for book translation projects. Additionally, MVR 120,414.60 was utilized for Hifz programs and initiatives to promote the knowledge of the Holy Quran.
Furthermore, statistics for August released by the Maldives Zakat House reveal that MVR 60,061 was disbursed to assist those in debt (Al-Gharimin), while MVR 19,834.02 was allocated to support stranded travelers (Ibn al-Sabil).
The Zakat Fund recorded a total income of MVR 7,353,416.98 during the month of August 2026.
