Regulations amended to provide medical coverage for families of police officers who die in the line of duty

The police employment regulations have been amended to ensure that the families of officers who die in the line of duty continue to receive medical coverage through the police service.

This change was introduced under the Second Amendment to the Police Employment Regulations.

Following the addition of a new provision to the regulations, the police service will now provide medical coverage to the families of officers who lose their lives in the line of duty.

According to the regulations, the provision of medical benefits to the families of police officers who die in the line of duty shall be determined by the Executive Management Board. This decision must be based on an assessment of the circumstances surrounding the officer's death, the nature of the incident, and the specific role performed by the officer at the time.

The amendment also outlines the procedures for conducting funerals for police officers who lose their lives in the line of duty. Under these provisions, the funerals of officers who die while performing their duties may be held as official ceremonial events, subject to the decisions of the Executive Management Board.

This amendment will provide significant relief to the families of police officers who lose their lives in the line of duty while facing life-threatening risks to ensure national and public security. Previously, while active-duty officers were entitled to medical services, there was no mechanism in place to extend these benefits to the families of officers who died in the line of duty.
