Despite President Muizzu's assurance that remaining 30 percent of the B. Hithaadhoo harbor project would be completed with the modifications requested by the island's residents, no such changes implemented so far

Former B. Hithaadhoo Council Member Mohamed Fazil has expressed concern over the completion of the island's harbor project without any of the requested modifications. Despite President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s earlier pledge to revise and complete the project according to the residents' wishes—after 70 percent of the work had already been finished during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration—Fazil noted that the harbor was finalized without any changes.

Expressing his concern in an interview with RaajjeTV, Fazil stated that during President Muizzu's visit to Hithadhoo on August 22, 2025, the President assured residents that the harbor project would be completed with the specific modifications requested by the community.

However, Fazil stated that it was suddenly announced that the work had been completed as originally planned, without any changes being made.

During the public meeting, President Muizzu spoke with great fervor, pledging to install revetments here just as they have been done on the other side, yet that remains unfulfilled. Furthermore, he promised to extend the channel breakwater by an additional 50 meters. In reality, none of the matters discussed with the public, nor the specific requests made by the people, have been addressed.

Furthermore, Fazil noted that less than three months have passed since the harbor's completion, yet the lights installed by MTCC are already non-functional. He also expressed concern over ongoing coastal erosion, pointing out that the bedding used for unloading armor stones was never removed upon the project's conclusion.

The B. Hithaadhoo harbor development project was officially launched by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) in 2022. Under the scope of the project, 19,030 cubic meters were dredged for the harbor basin, while 495 meters of breakwater and 22 meters of groyne were constructed. Additionally, the project included the installation of 90 meters of revetment, 350 meters of quay wall, a ramp, and 1,750 square meters of pavement, along with the installation of harbor and channel lights.

By the end of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration, 70 percent of the project's work had been completed.
