A Year On, No Progress on Hithaadhoo Multipurpose Hall Project
16 ސެޕްޓެމްބަރު 2026 | ބުދަ 08:15The Hithaadhoo Island Council has expressed concern over the prolonged delay in commencing the construction of a multipurpose hall, despite the site being cordoned off and staff being recruited for the project. The council noted that the stalemate is significantly hindering school sporting activities and has created major logistical challenges for the upcoming Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Shamiya Abdul Latheef, Vice President of the B. Hithaadhoo Island Council, has stated that no practical work has commenced on the construction of the school’s multipurpose hall, despite a year passing since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu pledged to undertake the project.
Speaking to RaajjeTV, Shamiya stated that President Muizzu visited the island in August 2023 and pledged to construct the hall. She further noted that the project has been officially awarded to the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation.
She stated that although the project commenced and the area was fenced off within the same month, the fencing has since disappeared. Shamia further noted that the site was previously used by local students for handball practice, but it has remained inaccessible to them since the area was closed off.

Shamiya stated that the school is scheduled to hold a major event this year to commemorate its 75th anniversary. She noted that the community had been hopeful that the special ceremony for the occasion could be hosted in the new hall. However, due to the lack of progress on the project, they have now been forced to plan the ceremony in an open-air area instead.
