B. Fulhadhoo sewerage project stalled after three-month completion pledge!

The Fulhadhoo Island Council has expressed concern over the continued suspension of work on the island's sewerage system project.

Expressing his concern in an interview with RaajjeTV, the President of the Fulhadhoo Island Council, Hassaan Moosa, stated that the project was awarded to a company named Olanbu just ahead of the previous local council elections.

Furthermore, a representative from the Olanbu company stated when contacted during the initial stages of the project that the work would be completed within three months.

I expressed my doubts at the time, suggesting that this might have been a move calculated for the council elections. Nevertheless, the work proceeded, and six months have now passed. Of the three sections of the well, this is the one where progress has moved at the fastest pace.

Furthermore, Hassaan criticized the government for merely placing manhole rings under the guise of establishing a sewerage system. He also expressed concern regarding the excavator brought in for the project, noting that it was rented by the Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC). He highlighted that rental costs would continue to accumulate even while the machinery remains idle.

Furthermore, Hassaan stated that employees of the Olanbu company, who had arrived to carry out the work, have departed due to non-payment of wages.

The water and sewerage project in B. Fulhadhoo was initiated during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration. By the end of that term, piping had been installed across one-third of the island; however, the project has remained stalled since the current government took office.
