38th National Quran Recitation Competition officially commences

The 38th National Quran Recitation Competition has officially commenced.

Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef officially inaugurated the competition during a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre on Thursday evening.

In his remarks at the ceremony, the Vice President emphasized that imparting the knowledge of the Holy Quran to the younger generation and instilling a profound, lasting love for its recitation in their hearts is not the responsibility of any single individual or group. Rather, he stated, it is a collective national duty that must be fulfilled through comprehensive cooperation to ensure the rising generation is raised in close affinity with the Quran.

During the ceremony, the Vice President extended a special message of advice to parents and all stakeholders within the education sector. He emphasized that focus should not be placed solely on achieving results, but rather on ensuring that a deep love and reverence for the Holy Quran remains steadfast in the hearts of children.

According to details released by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the qualification round for the current cycle was conducted across 20 regions, spanning from the northernmost atolls to the south, including the Greater Male' area. These administrative changes facilitated a broader reach for the competition. A total of 2,742 students participated in the qualification round, with 379 contestants successfully advancing to the semifinals.

The semi-final rounds are scheduled to take place from Friday through next Monday. The final round is slated for the following Wednesday and Thursday.
