Resolution of pending housing issues to be referred to the Office for Civil Rights

This decision follows the recent controversy surrounding the sale of a land plot in Hulhumalé at a significantly undervalued price.

Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr. Abdulla Muththalib has announced that long-standing, unresolved housing issues will no longer be decided directly by the Ministry. Instead, these cases will be referred to the Office for Civil Rights, which operates under the Attorney General’s Office.
In a post on X, Minister Muththalib announced that the Ministry has decided it will no longer directly issue rulings on long-standing housing issues that have remained unresolved due to various complications.
Explaining the rationale behind the decision, the Minister stated that since housing issues are sensitive matters deeply connected to the public interest, it is vital to address them through a transparent and fair process. Consequently, the Minister announced that such cases will henceforth be referred to the Office for Civil Rights, which operates under the Attorney General's Office.
Furthermore, Minister Muththalib stated that the Ministry will henceforth handle such matters in accordance with the findings and determinations issued by the Office for Civil Rights.
The Housing Minister’s announcement regarding these measures comes at a time when the Ministry is defending the controversial sale of a land plot in Hulhumalé Phase 2 for the significantly undervalued price of 400,000 Rufiyaa.
