Ahmed Shaheer has been appointed as the Chairman of the Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) announced on Tuesday that Shaheer was appointed as the Chairman of the Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) on Monday.
Shaheer had been serving as the Chairman of HDC since May 2024. However, he was removed from the post this past Thursday. In addition to his role at HDC, Shaheer also served as the Chairman of Fenaka Corporation from the beginning of the current administration until August 2024.
In addition to his tenure at Fenaka, Shaheer has also served as the Head of Procurement and Managing Director of STO.
Abdulla Faiz, who has served as the Chairman of MTDC since 2017, was appointed as the Chairman of MIFCO in September.
Shaheer’s appointment as Chairman of MTDC comes at a time when the company has decided to issue additional shares. This move is reportedly intended to facilitate a deal to sell the head lease of Gaafu Dhaalu Maguhdhuvaa, where Ayada Maldives is located, at a price significantly below its market value.
