The Ministry of Finance has announced a sale of Treasury bills (T-bills) totaling MVR 645 million across four different maturities to secure funding for rising government expenditures.

The Ministry of Finance has announced the opening of a sale for four Treasury bills (T-bills), with a payment deadline set for September 7. The Ministry stated that further information regarding the sale of these T-bills can be obtained by contacting them directly.

The Ministry of Finance has opened opportunities for investment in Treasury bills with maturities of 28 days, 98 days, 182 days, and 364 days. Among the bills offered in this round, the largest portion consists of 28-day bills at an interest rate of 3.5 percent. The government aims to raise MVR 265 million through this specific maturity period.

Furthermore, the government has opened bids to raise MVR 247 million for a 182-day period at an interest rate of 4.23 percent, MVR 83.4 million for a 364-day period at 4.6 percent, and MVR 50 million for a 98-day period at an interest rate of 3.87 percent.

President Muizzu's administration has previously issued Treasury bills (T-bills) to manage a budget deficit where government expenditure has consistently outpaced revenue. These bills are typically purchased by the Maldives Pension Administration Office, commercial banks, and state-owned enterprises. Reflecting this ongoing trend, the government opened bids for T-bills totaling MVR 1.26 billion in June, MVR 1.1 billion in March, and MVR 1.16 billion in February of this year.

Treasury bills are financial instruments utilized by the government to meet short-term funding requirements and manage cash flow.
